Earth Online turns your Apple Health data into a “Life RPG” character card. The app has no backend server of its own and does not use any third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. How data is read, stored, and when Apple’s own services come into play is spelled out below.
The app reads the data in the table below via Apple Health (HealthKit), read-only in all but two narrow cases (see the note after the table). All computation happens on your device, and is used to generate your character attributes, daily status, and related in-game content and features (such as the breathing exercise). Exactly how each data type gets used may evolve as features change, but the scope of what’s read always matches the table below — this page will be updated whenever a new data type is added.
| Data Type | Roughly Used For |
|---|---|
| Heart-rate related (resting heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, wrist temperature during sleep) | Recovery- and stamina-related game attributes and features |
| Activity related (steps, active energy, exercise time, walking/running distance, stand hours, VO2 max) | Stamina- and sedentary-related game attributes and features |
| Sleep (Apple sleep stages, or an on-device estimate from heart rate + motion) | Sleep-related game attributes and features |
| Mindful minutes | Recovery-related game attributes and features |
| Dietary caffeine | Alertness- and sleep-related game attributes and features |
| Menstrual cycle records (only for users who log them) | Cycle-phase estimation; read-only, never written or guessed |
By default, the app never modifies or writes back to your health data. There are exactly two opt-in exceptions, and both require you to actively trigger them: after finishing a breathing exercise, you can choose to save that period as a “Mindful Session” in Apple Health; you can also choose to log a “catch-up sleep” period into Apple Health’s sleep records (this can be undone in the app — only the entry the app itself wrote gets deleted).
Content you write or that gets generated as you play (daily self check-ins, journal entries, custom tracked factors, game progress, etc.) is stored locally on your device first, and is never written back to Apple Health.
If you turn on iCloud, this content syncs to your own iCloud account, for restoring progress on a new device. This data travels entirely through Apple’s iCloud service and is managed end-to-end by Apple — we (the developer) cannot access or see it. Turning off iCloud or deleting the app doesn’t affect what’s already synced; deleting the app clears the local copy on that device. Raw health readings never enter this backup — they stay on-device only.
The “Feedback” feature in Settings is entirely optional: if you write something and attach screenshots (up to 3), it’s sent to us along with the app version and system version, to help us track down problems and improve the product. This is the only data the developer personally sees, and the app shows a reminder right before you submit. If you never submit feedback, this channel produces no data at all. Please don’t include anything in a screenshot you wouldn’t want someone else to see.
We do not collect your name, email, or Apple ID. Apple’s CloudKit service automatically attaches an identifier to every record that’s specific to this app, used to tell whether two submissions came from the same person — the identifier alone can’t be used to work out who you are, but it is visible to the developer.
None. The app does not integrate any analytics SDK, ad network, or backend service. No data is analyzed, sold, or shared with any third party.
In iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Earth Online, you can turn off any individual HealthKit read permission at any time. Once turned off, the corresponding attribute is labeled “no data.”
Turning off a permission doesn’t delete records you’ve already generated. Worth calling out: raw health readings never enter iCloud backup, but some statistics computed from health data — such as which days you hit your walking/sleep/standing goals, or streak counts — do sync to your own iCloud account as part of your game progress, for restoring on a new device.
If you have any questions about this policy, or want to report an issue, please use “Settings → Feedback” in the app.
